What's your Flava?

The series What’s Your Flava delves into the often absurd, yet endlessly fascinating world of food design, highlighting the strange intersections of imagination, art, and consumerism. Lies de Rooij uses this body of work to interrogate the ways in which food is elevated to an art form, while simultaneously questioning the boundaries of taste—both literal and cultural.

This surreal approach to food imagery invites the viewer to consider the gap between the indulgence of food design and the reality of how we actually eat. Through exaggerated colours, textures, and compositions, de she plays with our expectations and offers a witty commentary on the performative aspect of food culture.
What happens when food stops being about taste and becomes entirely about the look? What are the implications of designing meals for consumption on screens rather than in real life?
