Land & See (2019) is a series of hand-assembled collages by Lies de Rooij, shaped from found objects collected along Vancouver Island’s shores. Through this act of gathering discarded fragments, she traces the subtle connections between land, sea, and human presence.

In Land & See, each collage becomes a quiet excavation—reclaimed materials are transformed into compositions that feel both tangible and uncanny. By juxtaposing natural remnants with objects cast aside by modern life, these collages evoke a place where nature still abounds, yet human attempt at reconnection is deeply felt.

Her process of collecting, layering, and re-presenting invites us to reconsider what’s been tossed away—and what we still share with our surroundings. The works offer a poetic meditation on belonging, how we inhabit our environment, and the traces we leave in that landscape.
